Realtor: Here I Come to Save the Day!
The best Realtors don’t open doors. They close gaps.
For those of you who are old enough to remember, this brings to mind a super hero from my youth. Mighty Mouse. He was always swooping in to save the day! And just like Mighty Mouse, there are millions of examples of how Realtors have saved the day for their clients. I’m not entirely sure why so many of these stories go unsung, so I thought I’d share a few.
Most people today are trained to make sure they don’t pay too much for a service or product. In fact, you can ask AI almost anything and find the “best deal” in seconds.
And for some reason, we often fail to realize that investing in the wrong service can cost us thousands, sometimes hundreds of thousands, of dollars.
We focus on the upfront cost instead of the long-term gain.
Actually, some of the most successful companies in the world understand this principle very well. Companies like Apple and Coca-Cola invest heavily in top talent, marketing, and strategy because they know expertise pays dividends.
Having an educated Realtor is much the same.
A great Realtor doesn’t simply unlock doors.
They unlock opportunities.
They protect your interests.
They save you from expensive mistakes.
They negotiate better terms.
They point out issues you may have missed.
They help remove emotion from decisions that can impact your finances for years to come.
And sometimes, they save you from a disaster altogether.
One example that comes to mind involved a client who found a property on Facebook. She called me because she was interested in purchasing it. She had already been speaking with the prospective seller and was excited because the property was directly across the street from her son. To her, it seemed like the perfect opportunity to be closer to family.
Before she moved forward, I began researching the property.
What I discovered was shocking.
The person attempting to sell it didn’t even own it.
The property had been lost in a tax sale more than five years earlier due to unpaid property taxes.
Had my client purchased that property directly from the individual advertising it, she could have lost every penny she invested.
That consultation cost her nothing.
But it potentially saved her everything.
That’s what Realtors do.
We don’t simply help people buy houses.
We help them avoid costly mistakes.
We help them understand risks.
We help them think through decisions when emotions are running high.
Because let’s be honest, when people fall in love with a house, common sense can occasionally leave the building.
We also live in a time where information is everywhere. Buyers and sellers often believe they don’t need professional advice because everything can be researched online. And let’s be honest, as far as utilizing AI as a financial tool, it only works well if you know the right questions to ask it!
And yes, you can find information online.
What you cannot find online is wisdom.
Google doesn’t know your goals.
AI doesn’t know your family.
A website can’t walk through a house and notice warning signs.
An online estimate doesn’t know that a mobile home development is being proposed next door to the beautiful home you’re considering.
Algorithms don’t understand local nuances, neighborhood changes, or the emotional and financial implications of your decisions.
A trusted Realtor does.
Of course, no Realtor can predict the future.
But having a knowledgeable, reputable, and proven advocate in your corner is invaluable.
The internet can provide information.
Experience provides understanding.
And having someone who genuinely wants to see you flourish, who will answer your questions, discuss options, and help you think through major decisions before you jump headfirst into the fire, is worth far more than many people realize.
Sometimes a Realtor is a negotiator.
Sometimes a researcher.
Sometimes a counselor.
Sometimes a protector.
Sometimes just a sounding board.
And occasionally, we’re the person standing between our clients and a very expensive mistake.
So the next time you have an inkling to make a move, consider consulting a trusted resource instead of relying solely on the internet.
It may make a world of difference in your long-term financial well-being.
And who knows?
Your Realtor just might end up being your hero, too.
